Hey Friends,
How are you all doing?, this week I attended the TM CON Conference which is the of the largest gathering of African creators in media and tech. The event was mind-blowing, full of energy from the beginning to the end. TM CON brought together the biggest game-changers in tech and media to discuss the future of creativity. So I would love to share my experience and learnings.
There were a lot of speakers who talked about important topics. I met some CEOs of fintech companies, and we had several panel discussions with exciting topics.
Building Global and Impactful Personal Brands
What I learned from this was that you have to come out of your shell for you to be known. They made mention of an individual using their social media just for posting flowers and stuff while others use them to make a lot of money. In my own opinion, I feel they are right cause social media is one of the fastest ways to advertise yourself (e. g content Creation) or sell your products.
Here are some of their key points:‘‘You don’t build around communities, you build around impact - Tony Marvin Uche ’’
‘Stop chasing vanity metrics. Start chasing impact metrics - Jesse Dan-Yusuf’‘‘Authenticity Sells. Be Yourself - Jesse Dan-Yusuf’’
‘You can be whatever you want to be and do whatever you want to do, and do it excellently - Temilade Salami’
‘To be able to operate on a global level, people should be able to google your work and see what you do - Temilade Salami’
"Understanding who you are helps you identify which global space you fit in and your tribe - Maryam Bukar”
‘Take off your labels. Don’t put a label to yourself, just put yourself out there - Maryam Bukar’A Year In Review: Building from Africa
This was talking about the future of tech in Africa, it has been said that a lot of people would lose their jobs in the year 2024 because of the advancement of technology. Also, one important thing that I learned was you shouldn’t do things just because you see people doing them and they are successful with it, cause you might not be successful doing them. It was shared that a lot of people decided to open a fintech company earlier this year but many of them if not almost all shut down. This was because they saw how successful fintech companies like Flutter Wave and others performed.
Key Points:‘‘Rather than spending money on expenses, focus more on growth activities - Beatrice Omoh’’
‘‘You can’t just survive on foreign invest, but local investments are important as well-Marvin Uche’’
Not gonna lie this session was the one I loved most 😂😂
Found it so interesting cause it has a lot to do with me, the topic they discussed was ‘‘THE FUTURE OF ENTERTAINMENT’’
They talked about the future of entertainment. Actually, in the world of today, it is so easy and hard at the same time for one to become well-known(Popular). Yes, I said hard and easy😊. It is easy cause we are in the era of tech and a post on all social media can be enough, unlike the olden times when you had to start sharing flyers about songs or holding a lot of live shows. Now it’s so hard cause we have a lot of creators now. Bizzle Osikoya who is the co-founder of The Plug mentioned how hard it was to make most especially music artists’ songs go viral. He even mentioned that they spent $18,000 on a specific artist and up till now his songs haven’t gotten viral. I also got to know over 100,000 tracks are posted on Spotify everyday 🤯🤯
I got to know more about YouTube and also how to grow a successful channel
It was epic must say!‘‘As a creative, you need to find people that are for you, but not like you - Dr. Foy’’
Have a great week guys
